No pictures to share of the Reforestation Ramble WORS race.

Lynne did really well again - 2nd in her age group and 7th overall. I had two good laps and cramped / bonked with half lap to go - finished the race and that's all that counts when you get to my age right?

Shared a gel with Christine of the Alterra team as we rode for a bit on the second lap.

She must have received the more potent half of the packet as she proceeded to leave me in her dust and I pooped out. Oh, well. Better riding next time. Congrats Christine!

Weekend Update:

Rode 30 + miles on Saturday morning on the road with Tommy S. Check out the You Tube video I posted a link to the other day. All part of Senior prank day at Sowt Milwaukee High Screwal.

Drove to Crystal Ridge to remove the face slappers that had been giving me fits the past couple of weeks during our Wednesday night races.

Sunday - rode 30 + on the road again with the much better half.

WORS #4 - Phillips

No pictures for this week's race.

Update:

Lynne finisahed second in her class, 6th overall. Good for her.

I finished 8th in my age group and 68th overall. Not bad for a race that started out dry! I say started out dry and you're thinking oh brother it rained again. You are correct. It started raining after the first lap and a half. Thunder and lightning added to the event. Dry and dusty conditions quickly turned into wet and greasy in some spots.

Anyhow, I finished without any incidents or accidents. I had heard a comment that one unfortunate rider crashed into a tree and smashed the TREK TopFuel carbon frame he was racing. He too ended in the hospital for observation with a suspected concussion - possible broken collar bone too.

That's all for now.

Welcome to Wausau Sand & Gravel - OOPS - I mean The Big Ring Classis Marathon Race, A light drizzle welcomed us to the start line. After a rousing GOOOOO the sky opened up. Not a down pour mind you but enough rain to turn the trails into slick & greasy climbs followed by wet and sloppy downhills.

Once when the rain threatened to lighten up, you guessed it, it rain harder. The Top Fuel work almost flawlessly. Nearing the end of my last lap the demon chain-suck tried to rear it's ugly head. Not a really impressive finsih for me (22 out of 27 or so finishers) but Lynne rode quite well finishing 2nd again.

A brief update - I raced the 6 hour solo at 12 Hours of Gears Saturday May 27th. Finshed with 11 laps in 5.5 or hours. I just didn't have another one in me at that point. Met Candy, Coop and his new bride Anne, Genna and Tom, Bubba and his clan out for the fun.

Just returned from a day of rock climbing at Devils Lake. Boy howdy were there the people out there.

Will end up needing a day to recuperate tomorrow that's for certain.

Next week is the Big Ring Classic up in Wausau. See you there!

Well - it's that time of year again! Metro Mountain Bikers will hopefully be starting up Wednesday night races at Crystal Ridge next week. Races were cancelled due to the course being too wet this past Wednesday.

Call Metro Mtn Bikers hotline for trail updates (414)297 - 9616 (#2) for race / course conditions.

WORS racing calendar starts up this weekend with the first race of the year in Iola, Wisconsin.

Good luck everyone! GOoooooooo!

And to not be out done by Bubba's blog - This year Team Extreme has hired pit crew assistants to help with hand ups and such. I was able to get a copy of a photo from one of the gal's employee folders.
We're rolling now! The heck with Russkel's bubba beaters, I'll take my chances with Pirelli's from now on.

For those of you out there interested in the endurance racing scene - Candy & her suga daddy have made their brief debut in 24 SOLO produced by Ken Bell in association with Gripped Films. The movie follows Chris Eatough in his quest to win his 7th 24 hour solo world championship. It is a well done movie - especially since Candy is in it.

Check it out!

Don't believe everything you hear - those weather forecasters! They want me to believe it's going to warm up - threatening me with spring-like temps. I'm not going to buy into all of this nonsense. It is what it is so don't get your hope set on anything!

White Death - Warm Temps - What's next? Brimstone and fire? The sky is falling!

Well, well. Another late winter storm has seemingly come and gone.

The last ride of the winter is going to take place this weekend. Heading up to the great white north for one final snowmobile trip of the winter. Predictions for snow are widely variable at best. I have heard 12 - 18" are possible and I can only hope and pray this comes true.

Like to play games?

Find the two deer in the picture above.

Winners get nothing - Losers, well, enough said.
Bubba

Each Friday night after work, Bubba would fire up his outdoor grill and cook a venison steak. But all of Bubba's neighbors were Catholic....and since it was Lent, they were forbidden from eating meat on Friday. The delicious aroma from the grilled venison steaks was causing such a problem for the Catholic faithful that they finally talked to their priest. The Priest came to visit Bubba and suggested that he become a Catholic. After several classes and much study, Bubba attended Mass.....and as the priest sprinkled holy water over him, he said, "You were born a Baptist, and raised a Baptist, but now you are a Catholic."

Bubba's neighbors were greatly relieved, until Friday night arrived, and the wonderful aroma of grilled venison again filled the neighborhood. The Priest was called immediately by the neighbors and as he rushed into Bubba's yard clutching a rosary preparing to scold him, he stopped and watched in amazement. There stood Bubba, clutching a small bottle of holy water which he carefully sprinkled over the grilling meat and chanted: "You wuz born a deer, you wuz raised a deer, but now you is a catfish."

Bubba - who loves ya!

It's been a terrible couple of weeks here in our world. A family friend lost their daughter when she was brutally murdered in Lacrosse on January 21st.

A scholarship fund has been set up in Danielle's name at the Citizen's Bank. Grants will be given to UW Stevens Point students majoring in communicative disorders. If you would care to donate in Danielle's name, donations can be dropped of at any Citizen's Bank branch. Please instruct the clerk to deposit the donation into the Danielle Gorectke Fund. If they have any problems doing this, they can contact the Minocqua branch for details.

Please keep her and her family in your prayers.

Thanks & Peace!

Nothing new here from me this week.

Bumped into Russell at the WAC in the spin room no doubt. Thank god it wasn't in the showers!

Training for the Rainier trip has begun in earnest. Leaving on July 18th and returning on July 23.

Day One - leave Paradise parking lot and climb to Camp Meir.

Day Two - acclimatize and work on team tactics, crevace (?) rescue, placing protection, etc...

Day Three - push on to Summit (weather permitting) back to take down camp and hike out to Paradise lot.

Day Four - alternate day to summit - back down and to the airport for the red eye home.

No fooling around here.

Concerned about the effect of oxygen depletion at altitude. Heading up with three friends.

Hey All - update for the week.

Well, with a new year underway, you might be asking yourself; what more can a guy do to have fun in the great outdoors?

How about climbing a mountain?

Plans and fitness building have begun. Weekly trips to the local indoor climbing gym have begun. Purchases of the all important gear has also begun.

Where are you going you might be asking?

Here! Mount Rainier.

Sunrise on the mountain.

Our intended route up.

Now this is what I'm calling cross-training for mountain bike race season!

See ya.

Wow time sure does fly by! Where has the month gone? While I patiently await the coming of winter and the snowmobile season, I thought I would share some deer hunting photos.

A friend of mine shot the following deer this year during the Wisconsin Gun Deer Season on opening day - around 7:15 AM.

I received these pics via email. This could be a new state record for Maryland.

That's all for now. More as I have time.

Congrats to Randy & Erica on the birth of their new addition - Tessa.

Happy Holidays to all!

It has been quite a month - considering November is one of those crazy in between months. Cold and wet - with snow. Anticipating the upcoming Gun Deer Season - of which I'm going to try to reduce the deer herd by one buck. This will occur in the great white northern forests of Wisconsin. I hunt east of Tomahawk - usually one of the coldest places in Wisconsin.

I had an oportunity to bow hunt this year and purchased my license early in September. I had too many other family issues (football, football, and more football) to actually get out earlier this fall. But, I made it out to a local wood lot and was given the opportunity to shoot - not a monster as had been seen - but a buck never-the-less. It is the first buck I've shot with a bow - been hunting 28 years. I'm totally pumped about it too! I nice 8 pointer - not as big as the one that is illegally using the Meno trail system that has been used illegally by the local Tosa youth for decades, but nice even still.

Updates to occur as I have the time.
